Library Association Courtesy Policy
The officers of the Library Association are responsible for the implementation of this policy. The Officers have discretion to execute additional courtesies as necessary.
ALL AMOUNTS OF MONEY MENTIONED IN THESE GUIDELINES WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE REVIEWED BY THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE EACH YEAR IN RELATION TO NEED.
Any leftover amount of money from a contribution will be deposited to the Library Association treasury.
1. Marriages of, or birth to, Library Association member: card sent.
2. Illness of Library Association member:
a. Hospitalization plus recuperative period of five (5) or more days:
planter, rosebud, candy or appropriate gift not to exceed $35.00.
b. More than one (1) prolonged illness or hospitalization per year
(September-August): card sent.
c. Prolonged illness (5 working days): card sent.
3. Library Association member leaving job after having been at the library
at least one (1) year:
a. A party will be financed by the Library Association if the person
leaving so desires.
b. The Social Committee will be in charge of planning the party, carrying
out the plans, and requesting assistance as needed.
c. The Library Association will provide paper goods, beverages and ice.
d. The person's department will initiate a card and an envelope for
donations toward either the purchase of a gift or the money itself.
4. Retirement of staff member:
a. A party will be financed by the Library Association.
b. The Secretary will send invitations to all retired staff members.
Cost of envelopes and postage will be paid by the Library
Administration office.
c. The Social Committee will be in charge of planning the party,
and requesting assistance as needed.
d. The Library Association will provide paper goods, beverages, and ice.
e. The Library Association will donate $25.00 towards the purchase of a
gift in addition to the donation envelope (and card) which will be
initiated by the retiree's department.
f. ALL STAFF are invited to this party, regardless of membership in LA.
5. Deaths:
a. For Library Association Member or immediate family (spouse, children,
mother, father): Library Association will send flowers or, if requested
by family, a memorial contribution, not to exceed $35.00. For the Dean
or his/her Associates, decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis
by the Executive Committee.
b. For non-Library Association Member or immediate family
(spouse, children, mother, father): card sent.
c. For siblings, in-laws, grandparents of any staff member: card sent.
6. Library Association Holiday Party: Secretary of the Library Association
will send a Holiday card with an invitation to the party to: Dean and
spouse, Assoc. Deans and their spouses, Assistant Dean and spouse and
the retired staff members. Cost of envelopes and postage will be paid
by the Library Administration office.
7. In July, Library Association sponsors a parking hang tag raffle for
in-house employees of the library. All proceeds go to the general fund.
