County Reel Index
The County Reel Index contains an alphabetical arrangement of the counties and the corresponding reel number. Only Marion County appears on more than one reel. At the end of the index is a list of additional material that was filmed on reels 29 through 31. Notably the poet James Whitcomb Riley concludes the filmed material.
The printed guide to the collection, the 114-page Guide to the Microfilm Edition at Indiana State University, contains a folder level subject index of the types of information that may be found in the county files. An index, or guide, was not prepared for the additional materials, so reels 29 through 31 must be searched manually frame by frame for information.
Consultation of the category and alphabetical subject listings will provide examples of the kinds of information that may be found in the microfilm edition or corresponding folders of paper records held by the Department of Rare Books. A corresponding personal name index contains names selected from folders containing family histories and information on prominent individuals in various communities. Therefore, although highly representative, it is an incomplete listing of the names of individuals mentioned in the papers of the project/program.
