Of its total 14,000 items, the Kirk Collection contains approximately 7,500 popular songs in different genres, published as late as 1972. The grouping of country music song sheets comprises a significant portion of the collection, with 2,061 songs published by the Acuff-Rose and Milene Music publishing companies from 1941 to 1972. These songs consist mostly of two-page, 23-cm. ASCAP or BMI promotional song sheets. They were used by music and department stores to promote sheet music sales.
