Do you have any bad habits? Are you interested in developing some good ones? Well now is your chance because the Staff Development Team has decided to host two staff development workshops for the entire staff on the, "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People". Dr. Frederica Kramer, Chairperson and Professor for the School of Family and Consumer Sciences, will present the first workshop in which she will provide an introduction to the "Seven Habits" as well as touch on the principles of Servant Leadership, great information for all of those folks who unexpectedly found themselves leading a team. The "Seven Habits" section of this workshop is based on the book by Stephen Covey, "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People." The "Servant Leadership" part of the workshop is based on Robert Greenleaf's book entitled "Servant Leadership: A Journey Into the Nature of Legitimate Power and Greatness."
The first session will provide you with some background information for the second staff development session titled, "Building a Great Library Workplace". Bob Ash, who is properly titled Dr. Ash, will present this workshop, but he refuses to use his title and simply likes to be called Bob. Bob currently runs his business, Life Lessons, out of Indianapolis and he has presented before clients such as Hewlett-Packard, IBM, NASA, and the CIA. Before that, Bob had a plethora of careers, which ranged from a janitor at a school to a superintendent for a school corporation. In addition, he has also spent several years as a professional baseball player. A few of you might even know Bob's family because he was raised in Terre Haute and his father used to own Ash Pharmacy.
Bob will present an all-day workshop that will teach us how to incorporate the "Seven Habits" into our lives. Some of the points that Bob will cover in his workshop are: building on our current Library vision, leadership, integrity, empowering others, building and maintaining trust, as well as groups vs. teams and how to transcend from departments to teams.
I will warn you now, be prepared to laugh. Deb Taylor and I saw Bob at the Greater Cincinnati Library Support Staff Symposium and we had a ball, so at the very least, come for the entertainment and to have fun! Yes, refreshments will be provided at both of the sessions.
