Forms of a Citation

A citation has two forms, both of which are necessary: the in-text citation and the end-of-text citation.

Part 1. In-text citation
The in-text citation is also known as parenthetical citation. The parenthetical citation is a short indication (in the body of your paper) that a source is cited. (It is called parenthetical citation because you put parentheses around the citation.) There are different methods of writing a parenthetical citation, and they will be explored later in the tutorial; however, two examples follow.
