Keyword Search: Using AND, OR, & NOT from the Advanced Search Screen It is more effective to conduct a keyword search by using the Boolean operators AND, OR, or NOT to combine two or more concepts. Boolean operators help focus your topic, limit your results, and make results more precise. The Advanced Search screen shown below allows you to conduct this type of search by clicking on the appropriate Boolean operator between the search boxes. The "Default Fields" category on the the drop-down menu tells the system to conduct a keyword search in the entire citation as well as the abstract.
