Why use this database?
- New York Times (1851-2001)
- Wall Street Journal (1889-1987)
- Full-text, most of it searchable
- Historical research
- Research specific events
- Pictures, advertising, classifieds, stock quotes
- Use "Document Type" menu to limit searches to
obituaries, marriage notices, and others
Searching the database
- Keyword searching
- In most cases, avoid broad keywords such as "capital
punishment"
- Limit the search by date to research certain decades or events
(the Depression, World War II)
Viewing Options
- Page maps display the entire page of the newspaper
- Articles can be selected from the page map
- Other pages from that particular issue can be browsed
- PDFs are available of whole pages or individual articles
- PDFs can be printed, saved, or e-mailed
